Craigavon & Armagh Rural Development (CARD) Local Action Group Working together to support the rural economy

About CARD

What do we do?

Background & Aims

CARD is an amalgamation of two previous LEADER II groups (Craigavon Rural Development and Armagh District Leader Group) and is incorporated as a Limited Company.

The unifying theme of Craigavon & Armagh Rural Development is:

‘Improving the Quality of Life in Rural Areas’

This will address issues of economic, environmental and social well being of the area. The measures addressed should in some way be a catalyst for future developments and an attraction of additional funds where possible, aiming for a more sustainable rural environment.

This will be achieved by exploiting opportunities, stimulating innovative projects and targeting areas of need. Micro-business (employs 10 or less employees) development is the main priority.

Target Groups

Throughout the life of the programme we aim to target the following groups:

  • Women
  • Young People
  • Farmers/ Farm families
  • Long-term Unemployed

It is anticipated that the aforementioned groupings will be given priority.

Map of card area

CARD Map showing Armagh and Council AreasThe areas to be excluded are the urban localities of Armagh City, Lurgan, Brownlow and Portadown as they all have populations with greater than 5,000 inhabitants.

However, the LEADER+ programme will retain the flexibility to support projects located in urban settings in cases where the projects will benefit rural areas and it makes sense that they should be located in a town.
